Over the past 150 years, there have been few developments in the construction industry. Except for sticks going from balloon to platform, construction hasn't changed since logs and solid brick. Sticks were designed for structure only and have never worked for insulation. Fiberglass insulation was an afterthought and lets air and moisture severely degrade its thermal resistance.
SIPS are not a new idea. In 1952, Alden B. Dow, son of the founder of the Dow Chemical Company, began using SIPS in residential construction. These first homes were built in Midland, Michigan with SIPS being used for exterior walls, interior partitions and roofs. These homes are still occupied today.
In 1984, Fred Fischer, P.E., discovered SIPS at a Peace Corp reunion. He built his home with SIPS and found they far outperformed the many other houses he had previously built. In 1986, he built his first factory and in 1990, he helped found the Structural Insulated Panel Association, which now has over 100 members. In 1993, FISCHERSIPS® moved into its new factory with its 8' x 24' press.
FISCHERSIPS® has built its history on quality, service, and long term relationships. |
